Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari has ignored Nigerians’ lamentation over hunger and hardship as he expressed satisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance.
“I am very pleased that they are able to stabilise the situation and continue to really get concerned about Nigerians. I am very happy about their performance,” Buhari said.
The former president was quoted to have said this in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson for Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Mr Buhari in Duara, Katsina, on Friday.
This comes as Nigerians continue to experience hardship following the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira by Tinubu’s administration.
The policies have drastically increased the prices of goods and food items. Even though the International Monetary Fund has praised Tinubu for having the courage to make tough economic decisions that his predecessors failed to make, many Nigerians have lambasted the government for being anti-poor.
In the face of Nigeria’s economic downtown, celebrities like Fuji musicians Wasiu “KWAM1” Ayinde and Olaiya Igwe, who campaigned for Mr Tinubu, have raised the alarm over the rising cost of food in the country.
Also, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar-led Northern Traditional Council, warned that rising poverty, hunger and insecurity will soon force people to revolt against Tinubu’s government.
Consequently, there have been protests in some states against the current hardship and unprecedented high cost of living.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has vowed that the present administration will deploy available resources to fight insecurity to ensure national peace and stability.
Shettima, who gave the assurance on Saturday, when he visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, maintained that President Bola Tinubu-led administration would leave no stone unturned to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.
