There was a mild drama as Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara deliberately shunned and walked past his predecessor, Nyesom Wike who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the governors’ meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Aso Rock.

President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with state governors at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, February 15, to proffer solutions to the economic crisis in the country.

However, while the governors were waiting for the commencement of the meeting, Fubara in a now-viral video was seen walking past Wike to greet Vice President Kashim Shettima and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Shettima who noticed Fubara’s refusal to greet Wike, ordered the Rivers governor to return to greet him.

Recall that Fubara and Wike before now have both been in conflict with each other over who owns Rivers state as the current governor claims his predecessor has been influencing his decision-making.

As a result of the conflict between Fubara and Wike, nine commissioners earlier resigned from their positions before President Tinubu intervened in the political conflict in the state which eventually led to the commissioners being reinstalled.

It will be recalled that in October 2023, the Rivers State House of Assembly, RSHA, was set ablaze by suspected political thugs over the move to impeach the state governor.

This came amid rumors of an impending impeachment procedure against Governor Fubara and Leader of the House, Edison Ehie.

Some thugs in a white Hilux van were said to have invaded the assembly complex in the night, disarmed the security personnel on duty, and set the building on fire.

The incident occurred at the assembly complex, opposite the Headquarters of the State Command Police, on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, the state capital.
