A claim emerged on Facebook that A.A Rano Gas Station in Osogbo, the Osun state capital has reduced the price of cooking gas by 50% due to the approaching month of Ramadan, with the current price of 1kg at N560.
The claim which has been posted and shared severally on Facebook and forwarded multiple times on WhatsApp has generated a lot of reactions among Nigerians who praised the A.A Rano Group generosity to crash the price amid economic hardship.
One of the posts said; “Alhamdulillah. May Allah make other businessmen emulate A. In RANO. I got the A story. RANO has high gas prices in Osun Osogbo State. Right now as I am writing this is 1500 the cost of 1KG in Dutsin-ma local government of Katsina state. I pray that Allah should have mercy on our people and fear Allah in their business. May Allah bring ease to our affairs.”
Despite the purported reduction being stated to be for the Osogbo outlet, the misinformation has made many consumers in other places to be desperate knowing fully well that the price of cooking gas currently hovers around N1,300N1,400 per kg.
They were also appealing to cooking gas dealers and retailers to reduce the price referencing the alleged price reduction at the A.A Rano gas outlet in Osogbo. The cooking gas sellers were even labelled greedy as they failed to budge to their persuasion.
This clearly highlights the impact of misinformation and its capacity to shape consumer behavior.
