"President Tinubu's Government Grants Universities Autonomy from IPPIS Amidst Efficiency Concerns"

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government has approved the removal of universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Systems (IPPS). The decision, made by the Federal Executive Council, allows these institutions to handle salary matters internally, aiming to improve efficiency in management. The move follows concerns about IPPS raised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and is effective immediately. ASUU has advocated for alternative systems like the University Transparency Accountability System (UTAS) and Universities’ Peculiar Personnel Payroll System (UP3S). IPPIS was introduced in 2006 to address corruption issues but has faced criticism, contributing to challenges in the country's university system.
