Tragedy as woman jumps into lagoon from moving boat in Lagos

Tragedy struck as a woman who boarded a boat from Igando in Lagos State to Ogun allegedly jumped into the river from the moving boat.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday evening, said that rescue teams were already searching for the woman.

According to him, one Rasaq reported the case to the Igando Police Division on Sunday at about 8:00 am.


The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that a woman who boarded a boat from Igando in Lagos State to Ogun allegedly jumped into the river from the moving boat.

The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday evening, said that rescue teams were already searching for the woman.

According to him, one Rasaq reported the case to the Igando Police Division on Sunday at about 8:00 am.

Rasaq said that at about 10:00 pm on Saturday, one Folashade Nimotalahi, of yet to be known address, boarded a boat from their Isuti Jet, Isuti Road, Igando in Lagos, going to Totowu in Ogun.

“They were 12 passengers on board. Suddenly, the woman removed the life jacket she was wearing and jumped into the river.


“She left behind one nylon bag containing a bottle of sniper, Alimosho General Hospital cards and some drugs,” the spokesperson quoted Rasaq as saying in his report.

The PPRO said that detectives from the division immediately visited the scene of the incident.

He added that a search party had been contacted to recover the corpse, while investigation was ongoing as they made efforts to contact the family.

In another development, a man has been arrested after crashing his vehicle into the gates of Buckingham Palace.

The Standard reports that the driver was seen on his knees as police shouted “keep your hands on your head!” during the early morning incident.

Neighbours heard a loud bang around 2.30 am on Saturday from the royal residence after the vehicle rammed into the main entrance gates.


A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 02:33hrs on Saturday, 09 March a car collided with the gates of Buckingham Palace.

“Armed officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage. He was taken to hospital.

“There were no reports of any injuries. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

Witnesses told news agencies that the Met pounded on the driver soon after the incident.

“I heard a loud bang, and I looked over and the car had crashed into Buckingham Palace,” a neighbour told SWNS.

“Police were on the scene pretty quickly – and they got the man out and arrested him.”


Grainy images on social media showed a car at the front gates of the palace.

Buckingham Palace said no member of the royal family was resident at the time of the incident and repairs to the gates were underway.
